Today’s Connections Hints & Answers For April 11, 2024 (Puzzle #304)

Thursday Connections is here and the word selection for today has a few mismatched choices that could throw you off the real category scents. The overall game shouldn’t be too difficult to solve for most as the choices cover a broad selection of topics.

One of the best ways to start a game of Connections is to use the shuffle button provided by the game. This mixes all the words up and stops the game from forcing fake connections by putting them next to each other. It’s easy to jump at the first thing and waste an attempt. Connections is a slow game, there is no timer and it should be completed with a thoughtful process.

BOWL

BUZZ

CREW

PIXIE

There was a tricky pirate-theme trying to sneak its way into today’s game with certain word combinations. CREW, COMPASS, and MERMAID all lost us an attempt as we tried to make that work. It wasn’t until we separated out PIXIE and BUZZ that we saw the yellow category for what it was. It wasn’t a fast score, but we were still successful in it.

Green Answers: Revealed & Explained

MEASURING INSTRUMENTS

COMPASS

RULER

SCALE

WATCH

Once CREW was removed it didn’t take long to see COMPASS matching nicely with SCALE. This led us right into our second win of the day, the green category. Our brains kept insisting that RULER should match with KING or COLONEL, but after another failed attempt we finally let that go.

The blue category was our leftovers for the day. PIPE and CHANNEL make sense here as starters but it wasn’t something we had to worry about.

CLOWN

COLONEL

KING

MERMAID

Purple was our third score for the day and this was a fun one! CLOWN and KING ended up being the catalysts for this grouping, with COLONEL quickly following. I will admit that it took longer than it should have to solve the MERMAID one, but we got it in the end. As a purveyor of these fine fast food establishments I would now like to go over my personal favorite dish from each.

  • CLOWN: I would like to go on record and say that Jack from Jack in the Box is a clown, but I’m assuming Mcdonald’s is the intended pick for this one since Ronald loves attention. We don’t eat here often, but when we do it’s McNuggets all the way. Get yourself some of that hot mustard dipping sauce and you’ve got a party.
  • COLONEL: The Colonel has been the frontman of KFC since the beginning and anytime we go into one we order the Double Down. The nice worker tells us that it hasn’t been available for years now so we leave and promptly go to the, far superior, Popeye’s for a chicken sandwich.
  • KING: Ah the King, a mascot to rule all mascots. I don’t think I’ve been to a Burger King since they got rid of the BK Kid’s Club. The memories of Jaws, Boomer, Wheels, and of course, Kid Vid still linger in our brains to this day. Oh the adventures we would have with our monthly newsletter, catching up with these, I don’t know… crimefighters? I honestly have no recollection of what they did. Anyway, the Impossible Burger is pretty good.
  • MERMAID: I like my coffee like I like my rabid penguins, iced with cold foam on top.

Does anyone remember those weird Quiznos mascots that were around in the early 2000s? What were those guys, gerbils?
