Dragon’s Dogma 2 Romance Guide (Affinity System)

The affinity mechanic in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the game’s way of showing how friendly an NPC is towards you. When their affinity is high, an NPC will behave much more kindly with the player, sometimes even giving them gifts. Depending on the NPC, players can even engage in side quests for them or join them on pleasant strolls.

At the moment, Dragon’s Dogma 2 only has a select number of NPCs the player can romance. Increasing affinity in DD2 involves completing several quests related to their backstory and showing more intimate interactions with the player. More romanceable characters may be added later, but the current options are quite unique in their own right.

How The Affinity System Works

Romance NPCs

Each named NPC in Dragon’s Dogma 2 has an affinity stat, which tracks how much they like or dislike the player. Affinity can be gained from favorable actions, like completing a quest for an NPC, or lost from actions like attacking or stealing from them. The best way to increase an NPC’s affinity, though, is through gift-giving.

In the NPC Logbook section of the History menu, players can see an organized list of all named NPCs they have encountered throughout the game. This Logbook gives information on where the NPC is located and, more importantly, what things they like. Providing an NPC a gift that corresponds to their likes will raise the NPC’s affinity with the player considerably.

An NPC’s affinity can only be increased once a day, so space out gifts across multiple days for maximum efficiency.

When an NPC has high affinity, they may visibly blush when talking with you or give you an item when spoken to. Merchants and vendors will notably provide discounts on their products, which can be very useful for getting expensive, powerful items after gold farming in DD2. Players can even receive gifts and notes at their home in Vernworth if an NPC’s affinity is high enough.

What Are Special NPC Gifts?

Use The Allure Augment

Two notable gifts that can be given to NPCs are the Bunch of Flowers and the Eternal Bond ring. After reaching a high-affinity status with them, bunches of Flowers can be received as presents from certain NPCs, such as Lennart. Gifting these flowers to other NPCs will result in a considerable affinity boost for the player, potentially leading to more flower bunches.

The Eternal Bond ring can be obtained once the player has collected 120 Seeker’s Tokens. When gifted to an NPC, it will give them a colossal affinity boost, but players can only get one ring. Players should think about whom to give the Eternal Bond to, saving it for particularly notable NPCs, like Glyndwr, or for one of the game’s romanceable options.

Aside from gift-giving, players can also use the Allure augment to help expedite affinity gain with NPCs. Allure is an augment for the Trickster vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that players can obtain while playing Dragon’s Dogma 2. It notably makes it easier to grow close with others, which amplifies the effects of specific gift-giving.

Which NPC Can Be Romanced?

Wilhelmina from Dragon's Dogma 2, chastising the player for barging into her establishment.

There are only two romanceable NPCs in Dragon’s Dogma 2: the noble Wilhelmina and the adventurous Ulrika. These NPCs will have a questline associated with them, concluding with romantic scenes with the player. Players can technically also use the Rose Chateau Bordelrie’s services for 20,000 Gold, yet this does little else than show a very brief, sultry scene.

Other romance options may be added later on, either as free updates or as part of DLC questlines, but these two appear to be the only truly romanceable characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
