Baldur’s Gate 3 Astarion Cosplay Is Hilariously Relatable

Summary

  • A hilarious Astarion cosplay from a Baldur’s Gate 3 mixes high fantasy with mundane activities of the real world.
  • Astarion, a beloved BG3 character, would likely never drive the vehicle shown in the cosplay photo session.
  • Astarion’s wit and power-hungry personality would likely shine even in real-life mundane struggles.

A new Astarion cosplay for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been making the rounds on social media due to how hilariously relatable it is. Astarion is one of the many recruitable companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 and also one of the most beloved among the community of players. This character created by Larian Studios is a half-elf vampire that, alongside Tav and their other partners, has become infected with an Illythid tadpole. Astarion easily ascended to become one of the favorite characters in the game due to his witty personality, brilliantly translated by Neil Newbon’s performance.

Now, the Rogue vampire has been brought into the real world with a cosplay made by a talented fan. Posted by the cosplayer known as Dat-Baka on Reddit, their interpretation of Astarion is shown pumping gas into their white fifth-generation Mazda Familia. Dat-Baka mentions that the pictures were taken after a convention, from which they were likely returning.

The funny aspect of this series of pictures is the blend between Astarion’s high-fantasy looks with the real-world struggles of having to pump gas into a car to continue going home. Somehow, it is hilariously relatable: no matter how fancy a Baldur’s Gate 3 character is, they will always succumb to mundane activities.

Funnily enough, as highlighted by other Reddit users in response to Dat-Baka’s original post, is that Astarion would most likely never drive that car. Although there is nothing wrong with the Mazda Familia, it is not a high-end and sophisticated vehicle, and, as such, would likely be deemed inappropriate for him to use – especially considering how much he oversells his own value and status.

Another user mentions that “Astarion would drive this car but pretend he’s never seen it before,” which seems like an adequate possibility for the vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3. Astarion is an exploited undead servant of a much stronger vampire and is treated like garbage. This is exactly what leads to him overcompensating with his newfound image when he is found somewhat free from the grasp of his vampire master.

As such, he could easily conform to having to ride a vehicle that is not the pinnacle of exuberance, but simultaneously not acknowledge the existence of that very car when questioned. The funny wit and often power-hungry personality make Astarion one of the most entertaining characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 and, when cosplayed, it comes across as a hilarious surprise seeing his real-life version being submitted to mundane struggles.
